Hello everyone!
I was hoping to show a little transformation Tuesday project that my daughter and I are working on for school. It's not due until Friday so she didn't see a need to rush. haha! They are supposed to come up with a fun holder for their Vday card exchange. (I am starting to see some competitive crafting fire in her eyes as she really wanted something different that no one else thought of.) I'll be sure to post it sometime this week though...
I decided instead to show you all a card that I ran home from the mailbox to make. Literally! The Greeting Farm came out with a military Ian set that Marie designed in honor of our troops. While this set will eventually be sold in her store, advance sets were available to families who had active duty soldiers. After a blah day, this showed up in my mailbox - woohoo!
Of course I had a little help from my friends - I got this layout from Sheri (PaperCrafty on SCS) who does meticulous - flawless - cards with perfect layers. I also got those cute punched silver cardstock from Mel (stampedbym) that I used for dog tags.
This card uses one of my favorite guilty techniques - paper piecing. Before I owned any coloring medium, this was my quick go-to solution. It gives clothing so much depth without having to color. Afterall, there was no way I could get camouflage done that well with just markers!
Quick how-to:
I stamped Ian on white c/s, then I stamped Ian on camouflauge DP.
After coloring him on the white c/s, I cut out his helmet and clothes out of the camouflauge then glued it on. Such a simple technique with little effort and cool results! I embossed the sentiment from the set on to the tag, and since this was made for a friend whose DH is deploying, I added 3 hearts for her and her 2 girls.
(Note: I know that this isn't the current pattern for military uniform. I really wish I had the latest digital design that I am planning on ordering. I was tempted to even cut one of DH's jackets but I don't think he would have understood.)
Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday, it's one day closer to the weekend!
*Love and Aloha*

I love it Joni! It's such a great card and paper piecing is awesome, when you need to dress them quick, or with pattern you just can't get anywhere else but from paper. I love this card.

Yes, we are getting Target!!! Finally!!! now, all we need is some Hobby Lobby or Joann's and Olive Garden and Bath & Body Works, and....I can go on and on! hahah...I'm so greedy! Thanks for the coupon offer. That's so sweet of you! I actually have some family up in Cali that were instructed to not throw out any adds from their newspaper from now til I arrive. :) They must think I'm a nutso!
Super cute! Great job ppr piecing! I just love it!
What a wonderful card!
What a great idea to paper piece this little guy's uniform! You could try photographing your DH's uniform and printing out the photo on white cardstock to paper piece the new pattern. Those dog tags are the perfect embellishment!
Too great! Sweet card for your friend and I like Ian! He seems like a good guy ;-)
I love this card Joni! Going to have to case this and send to my DH. Of course, that means breaking down and getting some Ians...Hmmm...Haven't checked out your blog in a while - love all of your altered projects!! Thanks for the inspiration.
